Invert Eye — Support
Invert Eye is video analysis for gymnastics coaching: film a skill on a phone or iPad, play it back frame by frame, draw on it, and talk over it.
If something is not working, or you need something explained, write to vaughn@invertsystems.com.au. A real person reads it — Invert Eye is made by Vaughn Ray Edmonds, trading as Invert Systems (ABN 44 869 392 328), in Goulburn, New South Wales. Expect a reply within two business days, usually sooner.
Please include what device you are on, what you were doing, and what happened instead. A screen recording is worth a page of description.
For parents
If your question is about your child's information — what is held, changing it, or withdrawing consent for video — ask your club first. They hold the records Invert Eye reads, and for most things they can act immediately, where we would only have to ask them anyway.
Two things worth knowing without having to ask anyone:
- Video of your child stays on the device that filmed it. Invert Eye stores a reference to the clip in that device's photo library, never a copy, and the footage is not uploaded to us. Whether that device belongs to the club or to the coach is your club's decision, and a fair thing to ask them.
- A recorded "no" to video cannot be overridden — not by a coach, not by club staff, not by us. If the app cannot tell whether consent was given, it refuses anyway.
The full detail is in the privacy policy. If you have raised something with your club and are not satisfied, write to the address above and it will be dealt with directly.
For coaches
Getting started
Invert Eye opens straight into the tool. There is nothing to sign up for and no account to create. Pick a clip from your photo library, scrub through it, draw on the frame, record a voice-over, and export the result to show a gymnast.
None of that requires a code, a login, or a club.
What a club code adds
If your club uses Invert Eye, a code connects the app to its gymnast list. That is what lets you choose which gymnast a clip is of, keep your clips between visits, and see the club's consent records. Codes come from your club, not from us — ask whoever runs your programme.
Tap Connect to your club on the Clips screen, or under More while watching a clip. The same code connects every phone and iPad your club uses — you do not need a fresh one for each.
Why a gymnast can't be chosen for a clip
The most common question, and it is working as intended. Invert Eye won't let you choose a gymnast for a clip when:
- consent for video has been recorded as no for that gymnast, or
- there is no consent answer at all, or
- the app cannot reach the club's records to check.
All three refuse. A consent check that guesses "yes" is not a consent check. If you believe the record is wrong, the fix is with your club — they update it, and the app follows.
If a device is lost
Tell your club, and tell them quickly — they can cut that one device off without disturbing any other. This matters most when a coach films on their own phone: the club can cut off the app's access to its gymnast list, but clips already in that phone's photo library are governed by your club's own policies, not by anything the app can reach.
Common problems
The app cannot see my videos. Invert Eye reads the device's photo library. If access was declined the first time, turn it back on in Settings → Privacy & Security → Photos → Invert Eye.
Record does nothing, or says it needs the camera. Filming inside the app needs two permissions — the camera to film, and photo access to keep what it films. If either was declined, turn it back on in Settings → Privacy & Security → Camera → Invert Eye and → Photos → Invert Eye. You can carry on without either: film in the Camera app as usual and add the clip with From Photos.
Connecting says the code is wrong. Letters that look alike are not used in codes, so 0 is always a zero and 1 is always a one — you cannot mistype an O for a 0. If it still refuses, your club may have made a new code since you were given yours. Ask your club for the current one.
The gymnast list is empty after connecting. The app reached the club but the club's records have not been shared yet. That is a setup step on the club's side, not a fault in the app.
An export failed part-way. Long clips with a voice-over take a moment to write. If it fails repeatedly, the device is usually out of storage.
Reporting something serious
If you believe information has been exposed, or a clip has been shared in a way it should not have been, write to vaughn@invertsystems.com.au and say so in the subject line. It will be looked at the same day.
If information we hold were ever exposed in a way likely to cause harm, we would tell the affected clubs and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner promptly, without waiting to be asked.
